Akwa Ibom Sports Festival: Students Commend Gov Udom Emmanuel As Eket Rounds Off LG Qualifiers


Hundreds of school pupils and students in Eket Local Government Area have expressed satisfaction as the Local Government Qualifiers of the ongoing Akwa Ibom Youth Sports Festival came to an end Monday at the Eket Township Stadium.
The competition which started on February 14 had Government Secondary School Afaha Eket leading the general medal count in the secondary school category as other schools slugged it out in the Local Government eliminations.
The sports competed for included scrabble, football, volleyball, tennis, track and field events like javelin throw,  short put,  discuss,  100m,  200m,  relay races,  etc.
In the 100m Girls final,  Enobong Daniel of  Government Secondary school,  Afaha Eket came tops in 13.36 minutes,  while Grace John Usenday of Nduo Eduo High School came 2nd in 14.12 minutes.  Joy Abraham of Community Secondary Commercial School,  Ikot Uso Ekong came 3rd in 14.19.
In the 100m Boys final,  Godswill Clement of Government Secondary school,  Afaha Eket was first in 12.00 as William Princewill of Touchstone High School came 2nd.  Daniel Uwem of Apostolic High School,  Esit Urua was 3rd in 12.46.
200m Girls final produced sparks as Francisca Francis of Girls High School,  Ikot Ibiok came 1st,  Aniefiok Sunday came 2nd and Ndifreke Akpan came third.
The 100m Boys final saw Chibuike Ohaji of Touch Stone High School as first,  Clement Udo  of Community Secondary Commercial School,  Ikot Uso Ekong as second and Daniel Akpan Eno of Dayspring Comp College as third.
Government Secondary school,  Afaha Eket came first in the 4*400m relay Girls final,  Girls High School,  Ikot Ibiok came second while Nduo Eduo High School came third.
The 4*400m Boys final saw Apostolic High School,  Esit Urua come tops,  Community Secondary Commercial School,  Ikot Uso Ekong emerged second while Govt Sec school,  Afaha Eket came third.
In volleyball, (Boys) QIC Comprehensive School,  Atabong came first while CDA secondary school,  Iko Eket,  Eket came second.
In scrabble (Girls) ,  Mfonobong David of QIC comprehensive,  Atabong,  Eket came first while Ekefre David of Nobles High School trailed in second place.
Scrabble (Boys)  saw Owoidigheabasi Emmanuel of Community Secondary Commercial School,  Ikot Uso Ekong emerge first while Uduak Emmanuel of QIC comp,  Atabong came second.
In Table Tennis,  (Girls) Favour Chioma of Sunshine schools,  Melley Ntirio of Christian Disciples School and Uduak Etifit of QIC comp,  Atabong came first,  second and third respectively.
In Table Tennis,  (Boys), Daniel Uso of QIC comp,  Atabong and Amaitem Mbebeng of Touchstone School came first and second respectively.
The Eket qualifiers also featured 800 metres boys and girls,  4*100m boys and girls, short put boys and girls,  discuss boys and girls,  javelin boys and girls.
The primary school category also came to an end at the QIC primary school,  Eket Oron road,  Eket.
The athletes thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for the opportunity to play different games and improve their skills.
Akujuobi Chibuike, football captain of Touchstone High School, Eket said he and his teammates were looking forward to the state finals to showcase their talents.
Hon Charles Etukudo, Supervisor for Education and Social Services praised Governor Udom Emmanuel for the idea of the youth sports festival noting that it is exciting to see schools sports back again.
