...Surpasses Men's Records in Masquerade Display

The city of Port Harcourt was abuzz with excitement as the Okpo masquerade group took to the streets of Captain Amangala, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Rivers State. The Si-Piri Okpo Voo-Doo, also known as "Blacky Display," is a unique blend of traditional and contemporary Caribbean-style events, renowned for their striking black costumes and energetic performances.

 

Thousands of spectators thronged the streets to catch a glimpse of the Okpo masquerades as they danced and performed their way through the community. The event's highlights included the introduction of Pioru, featuring colorful attire, beautiful dance steps, and mesmerizing masquerade displays that left the crowd in awe.

Her Royal Majesty Esther Christian, dubbed the Queen of Culture, expressed her gratitude to God and her team for the event's success. "I'm overwhelmed with excitement and happiness," she said. "The event was a huge success, with no casualties or incidents reported. It's a testament to God's grace and the hard work of my team."

 

Esther made history by becoming the first female to host a cultural display in Port Harcourt, breaking records as the best event of its kind in the city. Despite facing challenges, including some team members pulling out, Esther persevered and pulled through.

 

Pioru Masquarade

The event drew dignitaries from Okrika and other parts of Port Harcourt, with many praising Esther's organisation and dedication. She acknowledged the support of her godfather which is anonymous, her club, Revolution Stars and other cultural groups, as well as the teeming Youths of Captain Amangala Street.

Other areas in Port Harcourt that have hosted the Okpo Cultural display include Okrika Waterfront, Yam Zone Down, and Marine Base Down, among others. Esther's achievement serves as a testament to her commitment to preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
