NWFL: Bayelsa Queens Extend Unbeaten Run

Bayelsa Queens were held to a goalless draw by Rivers Angels at the Samson Siasia Stadium in match day five of the Nigeria Women Football League decided in Yenagoa.

In a game of intrigues 'The Restoration Girls' continued to impress their home fans, showing promises of emerging champions at the end of the season.

Bayelsa Queens came close of scoring in the early minutes when Sike Promise attempts a shot from her end, Tochukwu Oluehi gathered calmly to denied the Queens from taking the lead.

Rivers Angels responded to have their own share in the game as Yusuf Hannah drive in from her left flank but was intercepted by Igbinovia Osamudiame

In the 21st minutes, Uzoamaka Igwe set-piece almost reck havoc for the 'Jewel of Rivers' but Mary Ologbosere clears with a header, few minutes later another opportunity fell on Juliet Sunday to break the deadlock as her attempt went off the post.

Juliet Sunday connect brilliantly as she head inches wide from Mabel Effiom corner kick, in the 56th minutes Nwaoa Favour came to the rescue of the Queens as she pulled a massive save to frustrate Sule Rafiat one-on-one shot.

It was a pulsating contest that ebbed and flowed; but both sides will be pondering what might have been the spoilsport.

Head Coach of Bayelsa Queens, Mike Ekpeyong admitted that his side wants to win at home with target of qualifying for the next phase.

"We expect to win at home, we have done our best for not losing any match up till this time". Ekpeyong told www.kelvianomedia.blogspot.com.ng.

"We played well, our target is to qualify for the Super Four which am very confident on that, since the winning at home has not come yet, I still hope we will". Ekpeyong concluded.

On his part, Rivers Angels head coach, Edwin Okon voiced his sentiment on miss chances by his attackers after the crucial encounter.

"My mission here is to pick all three points and I rule the missing chances on my attackers".

"We would have been two to three goals up but I thank God we still pick a point so am happy with the team today". Okon revealed.

The draw meant Rivers Angels slipped one place to fourth on the log with 8 points from 5 matches while Bayelsa Queens maintained top spot on the log with 9 points from 5 matches.
