It was a game of class and entertainment at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium as Rivers United edged El-Kanemi Warriors by a lone goal scored by Guy Kuieman in the 68' minutes for the "Pride of Rivers" to gain maximum points by starting their NPFL campaign on a winning note.

El-Kanemi Warriors was the better side of the day, creating good chances in both halves would have seen the "Desert Warriors" in front but lack of composure in converting those chances was their undoing.

Meanwhile, El-Kanemi Warriors Shot Stopper George Michael lamented about his team unable to buried the chances at their disposal, which has caused them losing to Rivers United in their first game of the 2017/2018 Nigerian Professional Football League season.

"I think we wasted our chances and that's how the game of football is.

"They had their chances and converted one so we just have to go back home and work on our finishing," he said.

El-Kanemi Warriors will face Abia Warriors at home in Bauchi on Wednesda, with the hope of reviving their 2017/2018 Nigerian Professional Football League season campaign on a winning note.
