Iyaye Inaugurates Committees For Grassroot Sports Development

Rivers State Commissioner for Sport Hon. Boma Iyaye has inaugurated two committees (Proposed 9th Rivers State Sports Festival Committee and Proposed Quarterly Championships Committee) that would oversees grassroot sports development in the state.

The inauguration held inside the Commissioners office of the Rivers State Ministry of Sports on Tuesday.
Hon Boma Iyaye said in his remarks that the inauguration of the committees is to ensure grassroot development of athletes in the state and for the committees to champion the discovery of athletes.
"We all know that sports is the only way to curb youth restivesnes, curb criminality in our society, if these youths are engaged and make them know the gain they will get from Sports, we don't think all these kidnapping we are having would be there." He said.
The Commissioner charged the newly inaugurated Committee on Proposed Quarterly Championshis to focus more on Amateur athletes from the grassroot and not professionals so that the state can have a pool of sports men and women in the state.
Reacting on behalf of the Proposed 9th Rivers State Sports Festival Committe Chairman Pastor J. D Enebeli the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Sports assured the Commissioner that the mandate conferred on the Ministry of Sports mut com to reality.
"I believe that with the inauguration of these committees the commissioner has taken a right step, at least to ensure the mandate conferred on the Rivers State Ministry of Sports becomes a reality." Enebeli echoes.
On his part the Chairman of the Proposed Quarterly Championships Committee and the Director of Sports Nathaniel B. Piaro responded that he will not disappoint in his task to move sports to its height in the state.
The Commissioner Hon Boma Iyaye furthermore charged the committes to set up a structure that ensures the sustainability of Sports Championship in the state even after they have left the ministry and also mandated the committees to submit their reports in a month's time.
