Team Nigeria Zoom into Quarter Finals at the All Africa Senior Badminton Champions

Team Nigeria recorded another dominant 5-0 win over Zimbabwe in the team event at the on-going All Africa Senior Badminton Championships 2019 to zoom into the quarter finals slot.

Team Nigeria put up an emphatic display to disperse team Zimbabwe when Amin Christopher and Chinenye Ibere in the women’s doubles subdued Gaza Mitchelle and Mudzamuri Tritama 21-6, 21-2 while in the men’s doubles Clement Krobakpo and Gideon Babalola grabbed 21-11, 21-10 win over Dziva Ashel and Kopolo Paul of Zimbabwe

Team Nigeria is yet to lose a single game in the championships currently topping group D to advance to the quarter finals undefeated. 

The team will consolidate on the brilliant performance exuded in the championship to face Uganda in the quarter final.

Delighted head coach of the senior national badminton team, Benjamin Orakpo said that he’s happy and impressed with the performance of his team, showing great momentum over other countries and they are ready to face them as they come.

“The players have been so impressive, against South Africa 5-0, against Zimbabwe 5-0 and I like what am seeing only that we need to correct one or two mistakes and we will take every match as they come,”

“We have trained, we’ve prepared, we were in camp for over a month and we are well motivated, we are hosting to win because we know what we are doing, we respect other players too but we are ready for all of them,” Benjamin added.

Other results in the third round of team event saw Mauritius edging Zambia 4-1, Egypt defeats Uganda 5-0, Cote d’ Ivoire overpowered Togo 4-1 while Ghana subdued Algeria 3-2.
