2019 All Africa Senior Badminton Championship Begins in Port Harcourt

Government
The
entire Port Harcourt city is currently agog following the commencement of the 2019
All Africa Senior Badminton Championships with 14 countries currently in
attendance.
President
of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih has commended the Rivers
State Government for their unalloyed support to the badminton family for
agreeing to host the 2019 All Africa Senior Badminton Championships.
Francis
Orbih stated that the Senior Badminton Championships here in Nigeria was last
hosted in Bauchi 2000 and 19 years after, the badminton family Africa is
converging again for Port Harcourt 2019
Speaking
during the Open ceremony at the Alfred Diete Spiff Civic Centre, Port Harcourt
on Monday, Orbih showered encomiums on the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom
Wike for his desire to use sports as a tool for promoting peace and social stability
is also a driving force for sports development in the state.
“I
sincerely thanked the Rivers State Government for his support for Badminton in
Nigeria, His Excellency Nyesom Wike has showed leadership in using sports to
promote social cohesion and development, his strong desire to use sports as a
tool for promoting peace and social stability is also a driving force for his ambitious
investment in sports development in Rivers State and Nigeria in general,” Orbih
stated
“The
Rivers State model for sports development is a worthy example other state
refers to in their sports development plans”.
“We
encourage you all to display a spirit of healthy sportsmanship and mutual
respect for one another, sports is a tool for corporation and integration and
we are sure you will all be very worthy ambassadors of your various countries”.
“Nigeria
has a team, we have the best team in this championship and we are looking
forward to lifting that trophy, Nigeria has hosted Africa before, we’ve still
not lifted that trophy and I think this year we want to break that jinx”.
