Okrika Hawks Basketball Team, Champions of Tonye Jekiri PHCity Basketball Challenge

Best of basketball skills, hustle, defense and three pointer shot was on display at the ground finale of the first Tonye Jekiri PHCity Basketball Challenge as Okrika Hawks edge DA-F Kings 80-76 to emerge Champions after a thrilling encounter.


It was an end to end basket between both side as Solomon Ezra draw the first blood for DA-F Kings, there after Okrika Hawks fought back to settle 18-18 at end of first quarter.


The restart of second quarter witness an explosives and intense atmosphere with Ebuka Emmanuel buzzer beater send the arena into jubilation with 42-46 (4points) lead for DA-F Kings going into the break.


The Hawks side did it in style, pulling an early lead with 15 points difference in the third quarter but the hard fighting DA-F Kings closed up the gap ending at 69-59 in favour of the Okrika Hawks side.


The fourth quarter was back and forth for both side as DA-F Kings managed to reduce the deficit claiming the fourth quarter 11-17 to settle for a final score of 80-76.


Winners of the first Tonye Jekiri PHCity Basketball Challenge were awarded with cash price of Four Hundred Thousand Naira (N400,000.00), as the second place team got Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N250,000.00).


SBMF and E-Bluk who were losers of the semifinals clash got consolation cash prize of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000) each 


Meanwhile, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition in the Male Category, Solomon Ezra received cash reward of Fifteen Thousand Naira (N15,000), while Sophia Eddison smiled home with Ten Thousand Naira as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the female category.


Other awards presented on the night, were Best Centre Guard, Best Three Pointer, Best Assistant Guard and Free Throw amongst others.
