Ikpea commends Lagos Govt for plans to take over National Stadium
National Chairman Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Reverend Samuel Ikpea, has heaped encomiums on the Lagos State Government, and particularly Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, for plans to take over National Stadium, Surulere Lagos.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, will begin a two-day working visit of the Stadium and various youth centres in Lagos.
Barrister Dalung and Governor Ambode are due to inspect the National Stadium on Wednesday to assess the level of work to be done there. They will also visit the various youth centres in the state.
The inspection kick starts what will eventually end up as a cooperation between the federal government and Lagos state to renovate the National Stadium. The edifice has continued to dilapidate after the last international game was played in the main bowl in 2005.
Governor Ambode expressed intent to give the stadium a face lift, when he paid a courtesy and condolence visit to the Minister of Youth and Sports Barrister Solomon Dalung in Abuja. He said he want to bring back the football culture of Lagos state to the National Stadium after its renovation.
Rev. Ikpea, in his words stated that the Lagos State Government will utilize, maintain and facelift facilities at the National Stadium Complex which will attract the return of national team football to the Centre of Excellence.
He declared that the NFSC was enamoured by the arrangements made by the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government over the Stadium.
“I think it’s a welcome development, we can only commend the efforts of the Government and people of Lagos State for the wonderful role they played. This will enhanced the return of national team football to Lagos.
The NFSC boss also commended the efforts of the government and other stakeholders in encouraging sports.
