NWFL: Mary Opara Breaks Osun Babes Heart in Umuahia

Abia Angels pip Osun Babes 1-0 in an exciting match day two encounter of the Nigeria Women Football League decided at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

A 74th minute free kick scored by Defender Mary Opara was all Abia Angels needed to secure maximum  points against visiting Osun Babes FC.

Both teams started the game strongly but it was Abia Angels who had several chances but were unable to convert any.

In the first half, Merit Offor replaced Nkiru Donatus and she made an immediate  impact pushing the balls forward. Captain Orjiugo Godson was outstanding  stringing good passes and disturbing the Defence of Osun Babes.

The second half saw Abia Angels  making some changes with Striker Chiaka Ugorji coming out for Eunice Ezeani  in the 54th minute and also Favour Emmanuel being substituted for Chinenye Emenike in the 61st minute.

These changes paid off as Mary Opara  scored a beautiful free kick to give the Angels from the East all three points. This was similar to the one she scored against Sunshine Queens which was adjudged offside.

Osun Babes Substitutes Yetunde Fajobi  and former Abia Angels player Nkechi Agams lunched attacks  but Abia Angels defenders kept them at bay.

Abia Angels Coach Ann Chiejine she expressed her satisfaction with her girls play although they were not converting chances.

"we dominated the game and could have scored more but we didn't, we will work on this and improve our play".

Speaking to Journalists after the encounter, Head Coach of Osun Babes Liadi Bashir said he wasn't satisfied with his girls performance but he will work on the lapses and believes his team will bounce back in their next game.

Abia Angels next game will be away to Adamawa Queens on Wednesday 25th April 2018.
