Sports Ministry Gives Out Palliatives To SWAN

The Ministry of Sports in Rivers State on Friday hands out palliatives to Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Rivers State Chapter as token to support the association cushion the effect of coronavirus pandemic ravaging the state and country presently.

At the presentation of packed items such as Rice and Tomatoes in Port Harcourt, Representative of the Sports Ministry and Media Officer, Mr Daniel Nwankwoala clarified that the ministry felt the need to support SWAN as partners of the Ministry in promoting all sporting activities in the state.u

According to him "SWAN have been a partner to Ministry of Sports Rivers State, all the activities that we have SWAN covers it because of that we felt as a ministry that we need to support SWAN in this period of pandemic that everybody is facing, so we need to support SWAN." Mr Daniel explained.

"So in appreciation to what you SWAN have been doing for us, that's what we are doing now, no other state in the south-south have done it. We are doing because we are part of the government, we want to support the administration of Chief Nyesom Wike because he had been doing enough for Rivers people. And so, we want to support as a ministry and we'll do more in terms to come we'll continue to do more." Mr Daniel concluded.

On his part, the Acting Chairman Sports Writers Association of Nigeria Rivers State Chapter Mr Olalekan Ige thanked the ministry for being the first to come forward to support the association in this critical time the state is faced with coronavirus pandemic.

"I think its just to say thank you to the Ministry of Sports, we've tried as much as possible to reach out to a lot of our friends and the Ministry of Sports is the first to come forward, I'm expectant that we have other of our friends that will be coming forward in not too distant future but kudos to the Ministry of Sports and we can only say thank you to them." Ige echoes in happiness.

Meanwhile, members were in high spirits as they showered dithyramb on the Sports Ministry for reaching out to them at this period and the leadership of SWAN in the state for their foresight in ensuring that members welfare are top priority.
