It's Been A Year of Diligent Representation - Hon. Marcus Onobun

The Honourable member of the Edo State House of Assembly and Deputy Minority Leader, Honourable Marcus Onobun has recounted his archivement in the past one year of diligent service to his people and good people of Edo State. 

On 17th June 2019, The 7th assembly of the EDHA was inaugurated giving room for members elect to carry out their statutory obligations as honorable members representing their various constituencies.

Recounting on his impact as a member of the house and his contributions to his constituency over the past one year, Hon Marcus carefully highlights the activities of the house .

ON LEGISLATIVE MATTERS 

So far, the House has received 12(Twelve) Bills, 6(Six) has been assented to, 4(Four) Bills has been passed to Law and 2(Two) Bills are pending.

The House also within the period made 63 Resolutions. *Worthy of note, some of these enactments* by the House presided over by Rt. Hon. Okiye which have oiled the wheels of transformation and progress from a Civil servant State to an economic Hub; is the timely passage of the 2019 Revised Appropriation Bill into Law, Passing of year 2020 proposed Appropriation Bill into Law and confirmation of commissioner nominees to form part of the State cabinet.

Other notable Bills supervised by Rt. Hon. Okiye which have helped to shape the fortunes of the state includes: A Bill for the establishment of the Edo State College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and a Bill for the establishment of the Edo State Sport commission.

The House under Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye leadership also carefully resolved on issues bordering on welfare of people of the state for instance, Resolution of the House on the consequential motion on the flooding in Esan-North East Constituency in Uromi, A consequential motion calling on the Federal, State and local governments and other security agencies to stop herdsmen and criminals from killing, maiming, kidnapping and raping of women in Akoko–Edo Local Government Area.

Honorable Marcus also moved a motion calling on relevant agencies to urgently tackle the deplorable condition on the Benin - Auchi - Ekpoma Road and Federal Highways in Edo State among others.

Honorable Marcus and his fellow legislators also ensured that Laws and Resolutions by the House provided the desired result for the people of the state by closely monitoring implementations through oversight functions.

EDUCATION

Honorable Marcus has also influenced the admission of over 30 members of his constituents seeking admission into tertiary institutions and as well sponsored the internship program of 10 nursing graduates from Esan West constituency.

ELECTRICITY 

As part of his electioneering promise to the people of Ihumudumu and Iruekpen communities he provided 2 brand new transformers to the respective communities to curb the problem of epileptic power supply. He has also mobilized for the repair of some faulty transformers within Ekpoma metropolis.

JOB CREATION

Hon Marcus has also facilitated the appointment of several members of his constituents. Amongst which are:
1. Hon. Otaigbe Akhabue- supervisory counselor for youths and sports Esan West LGA - Ward 6
2. Amb. Collins Aigbogun SSA on legislative matters to mr speaker - Ward 10
3. Collins Idiakuewa SA on security to mr speaker -ward 9
4. Comr Freeborn Ahanon SA on legislative matters to mr speaker- Ward 1
5. Omoike Kingsley, (EDSTMA)
6. Odunabon Adams,(EDSTMA)
7. Akhimien Jonathan, (EDSTMA)
8. Odiase Humphrey (EDSTMA) 
9. Ogudo Unuaborna Collins (EDSTMA)

He also facilitated the appointment of 169 constituents members across the 10 wards into the Edo State Public work volunteers scheme (PUWOV)

COVID 19

Hon Marcus as part of his contribution to alleviate the sufferings of his constituents due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, donated his One month salary and in conjunction with other house members also purchased 200 bags of rice, 200 bags of beans and other items worth Six million Naira (#6, 000,000.00) to the State government to help cushion effects of the stay at home order of the State government on the people.

In addition, he also supplied relief materials including sanitizers to his constituency to curb the spread of COVID 19.

Remarking on his one year in office, he said all that we have achieved in the past one year is just a tip of the iceberg. I made a promise to effectively represent my people and that’s what I am committed to. I also want to appreciate my leaders for their guidance and support as well as the constituents for their support and encouragements.
