Grassroot: RSU set for SUG Sports Week

Rivers State University is set to host the ground finale of the Students Union Government Sports week at the University Sports complex in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Defending champions of the 2018 Vice Chancellor’s cup, Faculty of Agriculture popularly known as the “Farmers” will trade tackle with Management Science in this year’s final of the VC’s cup.

The final will be a repeat of last year edition of the competition; the farmers edge Management Science on penalties shutout to lift the cup in last year edition of the competition.

Management Science has reached the finals of the competition more than any team or faculty in the institution and they set sight of claiming this year competition gearing up to rewrite their past mistakes.

The Director of Sports, Rivers State University, Leo Bassey stated that the SUG sports week is annual event said “This competition is an annual event organised in the institution by the Students Union Government of Rivers State University, the aim of this competition is to see how we can develop further talents in our university coincidentally, school, state and country at large”.

“This year Rivers State University sports week has been a very wonderful one we’ve seen different athletes, different players, compete in the field of play to show the spirit of sportsmanship and so far the experience has been so good. Leo told www.kelvianomedia.blogspot.com.ng

The Director of Sports also disclosed plans and dignitaries that will grace this year edition of the sports week ahead of the ground finale scheduled to hold at the sports complex of the university. “In the female football category final, NDDC girls will lock horns with Hostel PG & H Girls while other sporting events that will be showcase during the ground final of the SUG Sports week includes Basketball, Chess, Scrabbles, Volleyball and other sports.

“We are looking at bringing big names to this competition but because of the African Cup of Nations currently on going in Egypt are our shortcoming but we still have some high profile personalities that will come through”.

“The likes of China Ikwerreman Acheru of Wish FM, Peter Abaje of Raypower FM, Deinma Abaku of Wave 91.7FM and Sammy Wejinya of ClassicBeatNaija FM as well as ex international Victor Ezeji, Taribo West and host of others set to grace the ground finale of this year’s competition”.

He also added that this year’s edition was going to be the best for students to remember in years to come.
