By Deinma Abaku

The Federal Government has been called upon to exonerate the late Ogoni activist and environmentalist, Ken Saro-Wiwa of the crime for which he and other Ogoni activists were hanged during the regime of the late General Sanni Abacha.

Chairman of Ogoni Civil Society Stakeholders Forum, Christian Lekia made the call at the Methodist Cathedral in Bori, during a special church service organized by the Forum to commemorate the posthumous birthday anniversary thanksgiving of late Ken Saro-Wiwa.

Lekia, who emphasized that the renowned environmentalist was unjustly murdered in 1995, urged the government to exonerate him and take away the stigma of criminality from his name.

He assured that the late Ken Saro-Wiwa would continually be celebrated for his effort in liberating the Ogonis and addressing environmental issues.

In his sermon, the Presbyter of Methodist Cathedral Bori, the Very Reverend Barine John, identified peace as very crucial for societal growth and emphasized that the peace of GOD through Christ Jesus is required to address ills in the society.

High point of the service, which was attended by members of civil society organizations and women groups, was a session of prayer for peace in Ogoni land.
