different kind of basketball event that will encompass almost everyone who have
not played basketball previous, the idea is to take basketball back to the
basic while the skills challenge are for those who can play basketball”.
“Tournament
like this is to show that there are more skilful players on this part of the
world; the Effiong Foundation will use the opportunity to pick talents, in the
near future, we are going to stop the use of overage players for tournament”. Mr
Soso disclosed
Mr Soso
further stated that SBMFoundation will partner secondary schools with
basketball facilities within the state to catch them young and groom talents
discovered in the process for the future.
“In the
near future, we are going to stop this idea of using overage players for
tournament, one of the ways to stop this is to catch them young by start this
in the school system”
“We want to
catch these kids from 10 year, 11 years so our job will be easier in future,
and hopefully the country will get to the point we will be better”.
“We need to
find a way to inculcate them in the school system and a lot of time it might
look like is hard, if we put basketball twice a week in almost all the school,
in less than two years you will see a mad difference in how this sports will
grow because once kids find out they love the sport and they are good at it
they will go to their street and find places around they can play away from
schools.”
