Basketball: Elite Player Skills Challenge To Be Stage in Port Harcourt

.... SBMFoundation to partner secondary schools to grow basketball in Rivers State

 

The Effiong Foundation in partnership with the Soso Bob-Manuel Foundation (SBMF) and Ball Skills Trainers’ Factory to stage a two day basketball event in Port Harcourt kicking off on Saturday 10th April at the Police Officers Mess Basketball court.

 

The Elite Player Skills Challenge event is a basketball camp and also a skills challenge tournament for teams in Rivers State.

 

The events will see over one hundreds kids taking part in the two day basketball challenge to catch them young and impart the basic rules of the game at a younger age.

 

Others team billed to take part in this two days players skills challenge are DA-F Basketball; Ricday Basketball; SBMF; Uniport Basketball team and a couple of others.

 

Speaking at the Press Briefing, the founder of SBMF, Mr Soso Bob Manuel stated that the two day events is to showcase raw talent in this part of the country to their partners “Effiong Foundation” who are base in the United State.

 

“It’s a different kind of basketball event that will encompass almost everyone who have not played basketball previous, the idea is to take basketball back to the basic while the skills challenge are for those who can play basketball”.

 

“Tournament like this is to show that there are more skilful players on this part of the world; the Effiong Foundation will use the opportunity to pick talents, in the near future, we are going to stop the use of overage players for tournament”. Mr Soso disclosed

 

Mr Soso further stated that SBMFoundation will partner secondary schools with basketball facilities within the state to catch them young and groom talents discovered in the process for the future.

 

“In the near future, we are going to stop this idea of using overage players for tournament, one of the ways to stop this is to catch them young by start this in the school system”

 

“We want to catch these kids from 10 year, 11 years so our job will be easier in future, and hopefully the country will get to the point we will be better”.

 

“We need to find a way to inculcate them in the school system and a lot of time it might look like is hard, if we put basketball twice a week in almost all the school, in less than two years you will see a mad difference in how this sports will grow because once kids find out they love the sport and they are good at it they will go to their street and find places around they can play away from schools.”

 

The two day basketball event will be strictly to Covid-19 compliance as medical practitioners will be on ground during the skills challenge.
