Grassroot: Treasure FM Kids Football Challenge Kicked off in Port Harcourt

The opening ceremony of the maiden edition of Treasure FM Rivers Kids Football Challenge kicked off Monday at the Radio Nigeria, Treasure FM football pitch, Port Harcourt.

Delivering the opening speech, Chairman Engr. Dr Jonas Emechebe said the competition has come to stay and hopes the games produce great talents in future for Rivers State, Nigeria and Africa at large.

He also assured that the competition will be extended to other States in the Southern part of Nigeria.

"The school children that are talented in football and we can help to nurtured them to growth so that the aged ones in the national team can be replaced base on this market we are driving today." Jona Emechebe to www.kelvianomedia.blogspot.com.ng

"Football as it is, this type of competition can help to keep these children out from social vices and reduce criminal activities in the society". He added.

"Twelve schools are already participating; this is the first edition of the competition, and we intend to reach out to the south-south zone of the six states in this geo-political zone so that this competition will be so robust in the near future and this young talent will be developed to maturity". Emechebe concluded.

In the opening game of the competition, De Devine Shammah School walked over Istan School going home with 3 goals and 3 points in group A, while in Group B, Trinity School defeated Christabel 4-0.

Vessel of Honour triumphed over Nazareth, claiming 2-1 victory in Group C, while Goshen white washed Sleek Angels 6-0 to top Group D
