Jewels And Mermaids Clash in Aiteo Quarters

The stage is set for one of the most interesting Women's Aiteo Cup quarter final fixtures on Wednesday in Lafia as defending Champions, Rivers Angels meet Akure based Sunshine Queens.

The Jewel of Rivers finished top of their group which had Osun Babes and Bayelsa Queens Feeders with maximum six points and will be up against the Owena Mermaid who came second in their own group at the Ijebu-Ode center.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Rivers Angels acting captain, Tochukwu Oluehi says she expects a tough game on Wednesday but believes her side will come out victorious.

"I know it won't be an easy game with Sunshine Queens which is why we have to take the bull by the horn," Oluehi said.

"The Aiteo Cup is a different ball game which we have to come all out for and leave no stone unturned.

"With the level of preparations, zeal and skill in camp, I'm confident we will make it to the next round," she added.

Oluehi equally believes the team's stay in Lafia for over one week now will be an added advantage in Wednesday's Aiteo Cup quarter-final game.

The Jewel of Rivers decided to stay back in the state after emerging top of their group since it was going to be the venue for their last eight engagement.

The Super Falcons goalkeeper told the Rivers Angels Media that they have already won the hearts of the Lafia fans and already feel at home.

"We already have the support of the fans which fell in love with us having seen us play against Osun Queens last week," Oluehi continued.

"We've been here for over one week and the fans have been coming to see us train every day and I'm pretty convinced they'll be behind us on Wednesday.

"All we need to do is to crown everything up with an outright win and wait for the next round," she summed.

On her part, Rivers Angels midfielder and former Falconets captain, Yetunde Adeboyejo expects an easy game against the Owena Mermaid.

"We are very determined and focused ahead of this encounter," began Adeboyejo.

"We'll be approaching the game from what we've been taught in training.

"So the spirit in camp is very high and I know it will be an easy one for us," she said.

The last time both sides met in a cup tie was in 2016 at the semifinal stage in Abuja with the Jewel of Rivers winning 2-1.
